Highlights from 2013

Holy crap....I can't believe it is the New Year already!!! This year just went by in a blink...
I just wanted to share some highlights from our 2013...what an amazing year...

We started off 2013 with a big celebration at my aunt's house...

Maya celebrated her first New Year's party, wearing a big, fluffy red dress...

A few days later, we celebrated our 7th anniversary...

Maya attended her first official birthday party (of her boyfriend, Christos)...

But then, our family suffered the loss of our incredible matriarch, Mary Josephine...

Maya was becoming more and more a Daddy's princess...

We had a romantic Valentine's Day...

And so did Maya...

I realized I might need to start baby proofing...

Because she was really starting to explore...

We found a new apartment in our favorite area of town...

We celebrated Maya's first Easter with friends and family...

We did the big move...luckily Maya was endlessly occupied with the bubble wrap...

I realized Maya's hair was long enough to do different hair styles...

Husband-ji had his 32nd birthday...

And then we were off to Venice for the trip of a lifetime...

Which turned out to be a fantastic family trip...

Maya was delighted with her new European wardrobe...

And she learned how to walk in Venice...

We came back and celebrated Maya's First Birthday...

We did our first-ever couples' cooking class - which was so much fun...

Husband-ji took his parents on an amazing Alaskan cruise...

We finally started to take Maya swimming...and she loved it....

We attended our first ever South Indian dinner party...

And discovered the best way to tire out a toddler is to take her to the park....

My blog started to get really popular all of a sudden...

We attended Stewart & Daniela's beautiful wedding...where Maya was the queen of the dance floor...

We babysat our friend's baby, for a 5 day sleepover...which proved that we are not quite ready for another child just yet...

Spent every Summer sunset on the beach with friends...

Grandpa & Grandma started to babysit more often...

Maya started to love drawing...

And playing with Ziggy...

I ended up getting Meningitis like a freak accident, and hospitalized for a week....

But I got out in time to celebrate my birthday at home, with my family...

Then followed a 6 week recovery, so my MIL arrived to help....

Then thankfully, life returned back to normal, quickly enough...as Maya was a bunny rabbit for Halloween...

And turned out to be an expert swimmer...

We celebrated Diwali, in style...

And Canadian Thanksgiving...

We had our first snowfall of the year....

And we met Santa...

And Maya loved the Christmas tree...

As well as her presents...

And then the year was over already....just like that!

To all my readers - HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here's wishing you a lovely year ahead - may each day be filled with joy and meaning. Love to you all....

Our Christmas celebrations

(Mum's Christmas tree - a real Pine tree spray-painted white!)

The biggest day of the year came and went, with so much joy & celebration! Even though we have a small family, Christmas has become quite the procession!

(Christmas Eve table)

On Christmas Eve, we visit friends during the day, and then we go over to my mum's house for a low-key dinner.

This year, my mum made a delicious salad, followed by her famous baked spicy pasta, and then we had gingerbread cake for dessert. After that, we opened our gifts under mum's tree.

Then, on Christmas day, we have Indian breakfast at our place (idly) and open the gifts under our tree. Then we watched movies all day, while Maya played with her new toys. For Christmas day dinner, we went back to my mum's house where she hosted a dinner for our relatives. Christmas day dinner is more fancy and over the top. My aunt made her famous "cheese ball" which was layered goat cheese with pesto, pine nuts and sun-dried tomatoes. For dinner, we had turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, roasted brussel sprouts, vegetarian baked stuffing, and my mum's famous Ontario-style mashed carrots and parsnips. Half of the menu was vegetarian, so husband-ji's family was very pleased! For dessert, we had pumpkin pie with whipped cream AND ice cream (from a delicious new ice cream company called Earnest)

The gifts were a big hit this year! For the grandparents, I made a custom calendar of baby pictures from Minted - and for my inlaws' calendar I added all the relatives' birthdays and Indian holidays. For my MIL, I got her a bunch of James Patterson books, TOMS shoes, and Tocca travel size perfumes. My mum gave my MIL a bright orange suitcase with smart wheels. MIL's gift themes definitely reflected all her globe-trotting (constantly traveling between here, Jamaica, Switzerland and India!) Husband-ji got my FIL a new wardrobe with new shirts and shoes - one of the shirts he designed himself! My inlaws love Christmas season - with the delicious food, family gatherings, and gift-giving!

(This calendar was a big hit with the grandparents!)

(Sandhya loved her new suitcase!)

It was wonderful this year - and Maya loved all her toys! She loved her little tea set the most!

(Maya's favorite gift was a tea set from my cousin's wife!)

Celebrating Christmas all together was a perfect end, to a perfect year...

(Kiss from my baby)
